Fedora 9 Touchpad Problem Solved
May 17th, 2008I just tried the fix I mentioned in my previous post for the synaptics touchpad in Fedora 9 where the tap does not work.
The fix works fine but I also see there’s a new rpm package available that has the tap functionality added back (yes, if you read this comment on the bug report it seems that it was intentionally removed and is not a bug!)

Thanks for this. Just installed FC9 and had to pick my jaw off the floor when I discovered why tap wasn’t working. Also can’t believe that they haven’t reverted something that’s clearly a regression. Taking tap out in this fashion is nothing at all like improving “accessibility”.

Probably some Mac zealot thought to be cute and make us all be just like a Mac. Barf.

The removal of the ‘mouse preference/Accessability’ feature, which disables the touchpad tap, is a clear and deliberate attempt to reduce the functionality of Fedora.
The person responsible for this regression is an opponent of Open Source and should not be allowed any input into builds of ANY systems. They are a Poison Pill.
Anything that they have worked on should be viewed with the upmost suspicion.
