Cannot Edit NetworkManager Connection System eth1
December 8th, 2008After installing Fedora 10, Network Manager correctly identified my network interfaces as eth0 for wireless and eth1 for wired. However my wired connection used to be my default connection named Auto eth1 so Network Manager would connect on start up and this is the way I prefer.
Since installing Fedora 10 my eth1 connection is now called System eth1 but it is not set to connect automatically. I also cannot change this setting since, when I try to edit my connection, the edit button for System eth1 is greyed out and so not available.
The workaround was easy enough, I just created a new wired connection with exactly the same settings as the System eth1 but set to connect automatically. So now I have entries for System eth1 and Default eth1 that are effectively the same. My point is, why can’t I edit the System eth1, and if that’s the correct set up, what’s the point in this connection?

It’s true, I also have this problem. In my network manager, I have auto eth1, system eth1 and both of these dont work properly.
system eth1 comes from the system->administration->network configuration. If you change that config, you’ll find that this configuration in network manager changes also.
the way to remove this configuration, is to deactivate the configuration in this administration applet, then enter it, and change “Controlled by network manager” to disabled.
Then you will see it disabled in your network manager also (because it will disappear).
Then you should only have auto eth1 and whatever other custom configurations you have.
My problem, is that auto eth1 is activated by default, but I need a static IP setup on my network, but I can’t for some reason, edit these preferences, I dont know where they are, I thought about /etc/sysconfig, but these options are in fact, for the administration applet mentioned above.
So, thats all I know, I thought it might be useful to you.
thanks, bye
