My 3 Speedtest Result

May 12th, 2011

The mobile operator 3 Denmark that I’m with have released a speedtest based on Ookla to ‘show just how good their network is’, in their words.

I installed it and tried it out, here’s the results from my office at work. I should mention that I work a few km’s from the centre of Copenhagen but the coverage is useless. I’m usually on an edge network and sometimes my phone shows as roaming because the signal from Sweden is stronger. Some days when I go home I can see that I’ve had no signal for 20-30% of the day!

I have an Oister MiFi which gets ~1Mbit from my office (about 200m from yours) which also uses the 3 network. It does drop back to 384kbit sometimes, so the area is definitely patchy. At home however, I readily get 2-4Mbit, so its most likely coverage. All in all though its still a million times better than Telia which struggles to get even an Edge signal…..

As you say Jonathan I think the coverage is very patchy here since at home (about 4km from my office) I easily get 2-4 Mbit as well. Even when I go to lunch in the canteen a few hundred metres away the signal improves markedly.
Funny that Telia have their main office just down the road but there’s so poor coverage….

It gets better…. At work today (Friday 3rd June) I get full bars and full bandwidth.
Work has considerably fewer people in today, with possibly less contention for bandwidth of the already patchy coverage here. Perhaps the high concentration of Telia users in one place seriously affects the service?
